PAUL BEIDERWELL
Lead Instructor
I
first discovered kitesurfing in 1999 when I saw the
"King Of The Air" competition on television.
I had never seen anything like it. I found myself on
the edge of my seat as I watched the riders jump 40
feet off the water, ride big waves and perform wake-style
tricks while being pulled behind giant kites. I was
quick to buy a small trainer kite, and then a much larger
12-meter kite.
At
the time, kiting was only starting to become popular,
and training opportunities were almost non-existent.
Many of us who started back then suffered humiliating
and dangerous situations, and it sometimes took months
to develop even the most basic skills without proper
instruction. It was clear that a training program was
needed to minimize injuries and maintain access on our
local beaches.
After
helping many people with pointers, I realized a more
detailed lesson plan was needed. In 2002, with help
from Extreme
Kites in St. Augustine, FL, I became a
certified PASA
instructor. Since then, I have helped over four hundred
people learn and enjoy the sport of kiteboarding. Now
my wife Linda and I both train. Check out the Huguenot
Park page of our web site to see one of
the most beautiful inlets on the East Coast.
